Commercial Radon Mitigation
Commercial Radon Mitigation and Radon Testing Services
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that is known to cause lung cancer in both humans and animals. Radon gas cannot be detected by the human senses as it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Radon gas enters a building through cracks in the foundation, open sump crocks, crawlspaces, and even through the pores of cured concrete. Once radon gas has entered, it becomes trapped inside of the structure and can build to unsafe concentrations. Commercial structures such as schools, factories, multi-family buildings, hospitals, and office buildings are all at risk of having dangerous radon gas levels present. Fortunately, radon gas can be removed from any structure no matter how large or complex. Commercial radon mitigation systems are designed to remove radon gas permanently from the structure. Lifetime Radon Solutions Inc. has been in the radon mitigation and radon testing industry for over 23 years. Our certified commercial radon mitigation team has worked on large scale commercial projects all over the US, and are eager to help you with your radon issue! Commercial Radon Testing
Radon gas can only be detected within a commercial structure by the use of proper testing equipment. Similar to radon testing in residential homes, radon testing in commercial properties can be done with either charcoal test kits or calibrated digital testing monitors. Regardless of what type of test is being used, commercial structures such as schools, factories, and office spaces should always be tested by a certified radon testing company. Lifetime Radon Solutions is certified for radon testing and radon mitigation through the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST) and the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP). When you choose a certified company to perform the radon test on your building, you will reduce liability and receive the most accurate test readings possible. If your commercial property tests at 4.0pCi/L or above, a radon mitigation system will be necessary to lower the radon levels to a safer range. Early detection is crucial when it comes to radon gas in the workplace, don’t wait any longer! Call us today to set up a radon test!
Commercial Radon Mitigation Systems (Sub-slab Depressurization)
The most popular form of radon mitigation in commercial structures is sub-slab depressurization (SSD). Sub-slab depressurization systems work by generating negative pressure under the slab of a structure to draw rising gases out before they have a chance to get in. Sub-slab depressurization systems typically consist of PVC piping, an in-line radon fan, and a manometer to monitor the fan's effectiveness. If the property has a drain-tile system in place under the slab the radon mitigation system can utilize that for maximum field extension. If the property does not have drain-tile, the system will draw out of pre dug collection points. The amount of collection points necessary to properly mitigate a property largely depends on the footprint of the structure and the radon concentration present. Larger structures may require multiple mitigation systems, collection points, and more powerful fan units to bring the radon levels to safe range.
Commercial Radon Mitigation and Testing - Schools
Unbeknownst to most students, faculty members, and parents, radon gas is a real threat in schools across the country. Very few states in the US require schools to test for radon gas, and the schools who have performed testing in the past are not required to release the test results. Due to children being more susceptible to the effects of radon gas because of their increased respiratory rates, it is crucial to identify and address any radon issues within the building as soon as possible. Lifetime Radon Solutions will take care of the testing of your school, the design and diagnostic processes, and the installation of a proper mitigation system. All of our systems are custom built, and we will guide you through the process every step of the way! Call us today to talk to a certified commercial mitigator and a free quote!
Commercial Radon Mitigation and Testing - Office Buildings
Radon gas issues are not exclusive to residential homes and small buildings. Radon comes from the decay of uranium in the soil, so it can exist in any area of the country, and its properties allow for it to enter any man made structure that doesn’t have radon preventative features built in. Your employees could be at risk of developing lung cancer if your building houses elevated concentrations of radon gas. Radon damages the cells in the lining of the lungs when inhaled over long periods of time, and with employees typically spending 40-60 hours a week inside of their workplace, long term exposure is fairly easy to accomplish. You can reduce liability, and increase the value of your property by testing and mitigating radon gas as soon as possible. We will guide you through the process and design an effective and aesthetically pleasing radon mitigation system in a timely manner. Call us right now for a free consultation!
Commercial Radon Mitigation and Testing - Multi-Family Buildings
Are your residents safe from radon gas inside of your multi-family building? If not, you could be liable for their medical costs if they develop lung cancer. Testing regularly and mitigating if the levels exceed 4.0pCi/L is the best way to keep your residents safe and eliminate liability when it comes to radon gas. Lifetime Radon Solutions is a certified radon testing and mitigation company with over 23 years of experience. We will test your apartment building, condo, duplex, or nursing home following all of the multi-family radon testing standards set by the EPA and the National Radon Proficiency Program. We will keep your radon test results secure and discreet, and develop a mitigation plan that both you and your residents feel comfortable with. Whether your building is in need of a sub-slab depressurization system, a drain-tile depressurization system, or a sub-membrane depressurization system, we can help! Call us now for a free quote!
Sub-slab Depressurization Systems (SSD)
The most commonly used method used to mitigate radon from commercial buildings is sub-slab depressurization (SSD) which is also referred to as active soil depressurization (ASD). Sub-slab depressurization works by actively drawing air out from underneath a structure and exhausting it above the roofline to prevent re-entry. This is done with PVC piping, and a specially designed in-line radon fan. Before sub-slab depressurization is performed on a commercial structure, extensive diagnostic testing should be performed to determine the best locations for field extension under the slab. After coring into the slab, the technician will need to dig out approximately 8-10 gallons worth of material to create a good collection point. The pipe is then sealed down into the floor and vented out. Per EPA and NRPP standards, the fan must be placed either on the exterior or in an attic above any conditioned living space.
Sub-membrane Depressurization Systems (SMD)
When a building has a dirt or gravel crawlspace open to the lowest level of the structure, a method called sub-membrane depressurization will need to be enacted to lower the radon levels to a safe range. Sub-membrane depressurization involves sealing the open gravel or dirt area with a vapor barrier and subsequently adding a venting system to the barrier to draw out the trapped gasses. After the vapor barrier is in place, sub-membrane depressurization is almost identical to sub-slab depressurization. More powerful fan units and different pipe sizes may be required when a property has a dirt or gravel crawlspace to ensure that the proper amount of radon gas is being removed.
